Design for me

Egocentric?

Maybe it’s frowned upon. Designing for me, how bad it sounds. Shouldn’t we be designing for Life, for the Regeneration of Bioregions, for Community?

And if we say “also”, it indicates our interdependence. It becomes visible that we are part of a larger system, and this in turn of several even larger fractals. We depend on connections with other beings, other life forms. We need them for our survival.

“They don’t need us,” one often hears. “Nature fends for itself if we let it.”

Shall we take the blame for all the previous generations on our shoulders? Will we work tirelessly to regenerate what has been shattered? And if we slip up one day, do we punish ourselves? Is there such a thing as 100% consistency? And if nature is so wonderful, and we are part of it, why wouldn’t we be wonderful ourselves?

A syntropic miracle in a chaordic world, the orchestra living a fantastic jazz session, the design of our species a mystery…

What would happen if we allowed ourselves to enjoy our privilege of being, in our moment, in our context, breathtakingly equal, yet challenging? To pause, breathe, observe and dance with the systems? Would we be so awed that it would be effortless for us to go against the socio-economic systems installed in our society today? Would we perhaps find the exact rhythm, our niche in the work, filling our role in the ecosystem, and feel like we were born for it?

Activist Burnout syndrome is a familiar one. I have experienced it to some degree. Climate anxiety can have the effect of feeling guilty, responsible for rectifying, frustrated when the rest of the world is not moving in the “needed” direction….

Permaculture offers us design tools for all fractals of life, and for all areas. There is no concept in which the principles cannot be applied; ethical, ecological, attitudinal, design… because they are based on the “laws” of Nature. And everything is and we are that Nature, even plastics, nuclear energy, weapons and pesticides.

Everything comes from Nature itself, and much has come from human genius. If “evil” can be used for “evil”, it can certainly be used for “good” as well.

We are launching a new online mini-course: the R for Personal Resilience, or “How to design for your Inner Landscape?” so that we can all be the resilient and creative people that the moment we are living asks of us. The Big Turn may be here. How do we stay our course?

Many native people show us a good way, and we believe that it involves knowing yourself, knowing your Nature, your limits and resources, and also your truly basic needs. It also involves connecting with the Nature that surrounds you, through observation, rituals and milestones, practicing gratitude for what our natural environment offers us to cover our needs, taking responsibility to keep our environment healthy…

And from these interdependencies we were born as our unique self. Genetics, mother tongue, culture, religion and/or main mythology, gender, decisions made by our ancestors, the trauma lived generations ago, collective intelligence, upbringing, the accompaniment received…

Example of activity booklet sheet to accompany the mini-course

“Be the Change you want to see in the World” (Gandhi).

The Circle of Influence is where we can have an impact by being proactive” (Stephen Covey).

If we think of mental states as sectors, we can now design for them.” (Toby Hemenway)

The Terrain is everything” (Bechamp, Bernard? It is true that in the 19th century medicine documented that our “inner field” is the decisive force against a virus, it is not the virus that wipes out everything. Pasteur famously admitted at his death in 1895 the reason of his contemporary who had said it before…)

With these 4 sentences perhaps it gives us the clarity that we can have a desired impact on the world, starting from our own Inner Landscape, our 00 Zone, which so many other designs will influence in a good way if we design it with the Ethics and principles of Permaculture.

If you want to be a better designer of possible futures, if you want to be able to practice and master all the #SABERES for that desired morning, we recommend you to design your Inner Landscape as soon as possible!
