Hello designers of the possible future!
Today in one week we kick off with the first live broadcast of our Permaculture Design Certificate course!
We recommend you to keep this email saved for these next 6 months as we travel the virtual realms, learning about life, cultivating learning community, improving the world for all beings and above all learning how to design a new regenerative culture. We will share a lot of practical information in this email.
I’m sorry to tell you that it might be a bit long! 😉
To begin with, we would like to remind you that some people still need to
1/ become a user on our website: when you arrive on the website click on ACCESS in the main menu or go directly to this link https://lacasaintegral.org/mi-cuenta/
2/ fill in the form: https://forms.gle/uwYTLjdM5wBC8FYC9
We continue with the link of the first live, click here below to see us on THURSDAY 22/09 from 19:00 to 21:00, preferably you will have a computer from which to connect and you will be in a place without much interference and noise, to be able to participate in the best way in the session.
La Casa Integral – Aline & Juan-Pedro is inviting you to a scheduled Zoom meeting.
Theme: PDC #SABERES for a possible future ’22-’23
Time: 22 Sept 2022 07:00 p. m. Madrid
Join the Zoom meeting
https://us02web.zoom.us/j/83201616899
Meeting ID: 832 0161 6899
If you have a Zoom account, you will immediately arrive in our waiting room. If you don’t use Zoom, you can log in with a guest account, you will only get a box asking you to enter your name and continue your journey until you reach the port as well.
For this first session we will use a couple of digital collaborative tools that have worked well for us in other trainings. All of them are free, some of you may have already played with them, for others it may be a steep learning curve!
Let’s go with the first one, a Miro board that we have prepared for you, to gather some information that will help us to make THE BASE MAP of this course, a new design (each training is co-designed by the people who participate in it)!
We ask you to open this link (you can easily login with your gmail or facebook account, alternatively you can make an account with an email and a password) and move your balls in 3 squares (the Game/Learning begins!):
- Location: your geographical location
- 4 Dimensions: More towards the center of the target is more interest, in the lighter colored circles is less interest. One ball per quadrant.
- #SABER: Per mountain (per letter) a little ball on the road, depending on how you feel about the level of knowledge or capabilities of each subject.
- S for Food Sovereignty
- A for Water
- B for Bioconstruction
- E for Energy
- R for Personal and Social Resilience
The Retro-Feeding box is for later. For the time being, it will be very useful and interesting to be able to look at everyone’s information on the live 9/22!
Guidelines for the use of the Miro:
- In the left column you see at the top an arrow. Clicking on this arrow, you switch between arrow and hand (arrow selected or not). The arrow is for moving balls, entering text (which for the moment we don’t ask you to do) etc. When the arrow is not selected, a hand will appear and then with the mouse (or with the finger on touch screen) you can “pull” the screen.
- You can zoom in and out of the whiteboard, to work in more detail on each box. If you don’t have a touch screen or a mouse with a mouse wheel, you see a plus + and a minus – in the lower right corner.
- We hope that everything that should not be moved is blocked (we are still practicing and learning too!), and if it is the case that you move something that you should not have moved, there is an arrow on the left to go back one step, in the picture you see it in the bottom left corner.
Another tool that we will use in the live show on Thursday 22/09 is the Google whiteboard, the Jamboard. This whiteboard is perhaps a bit simpler. We will use it for a live dynamic on Thursday next week, but we want to give you already the opportunity to try it. In this link you will find a TEST board to try out all the possible options in the left column, from painting to placing a post-it, from entering a photo to writing a text, and changing the color where you want. Let’s see what artwork will be made from this test board 🙂
A much needed tool, and this has been hard for us to find/choose, the platform where we will be talking and sharing the “homework” of the course, or as we prefer to call it, the Learning in Action exercises. So far the Slack platform has worked very well for us, but as of this September they have changed their terms of use to where you can only view messages for 90 days. Since our PDC has a duration of 6 months, we have no more use for this free tool!
A very valid alternative, which is also available in Spanish, is Discord, another free communication forum tool. We have prepared a workspace for you here. This tool will be perhaps the one we need to practice the most, so… maybe we can watch tutorials on YouTube or look for information in our favorite search engine. To begin with, when you arrive from this link, you can introduce yourselves in the #welcome-and-introductions channel, basically this is where you arrive, you will see this screen if everything goes well:
On the left you have the different channels (more will appear, one channel per module and several channels of general interest), in the middle below you have the box where you can enter your message (pressing ENTER sends the message), above it is important to understand that the thumbtack will always have the most important message of the channel fixed there and in the right column you see the forum users.
And finally, if everything goes wrong, if nothing else works, or if we want to communicate something urgent, more agile, we have enabled this Telegram group for that kind of communications, that we will not abuse its existence to say good morning to each other every day… 🙂 We will talk more about it in the first direct, when we talk about Group Agreements.
So much for the list of digital tools, for now! It is not our intention to overwhelm or collapse you with all this, but we find it interesting to know some appropriate technologies that can help us in these times of hyper digitization. If we know how to use online tools for the design of more resilient, more connected, closer communities… we see a lot of value in them!
This course is therefore not only a classic PDC, but also a PDC for the times! Permaculture is an organic science and evolves with the contexts, you will see! During the last years we have been able to experience that in difficult and uncertain times, it is better for our resilience to prepare and adapt in time and to be able to design for deep connection. Yes, it is also possible by screen!
Wow, a lot of information right? If at any time you need help with anything, feel free to contact me here by mail or on mobile 666 333 335 and/or with Juan Pedro by private message on Telegram or WhatsApp 717 70 98 21.
We have a couple more days of open registrations, on Monday we want to close and have all the energy focused on the beginning of this new stage of our lives!
We send you very good vibes and a fantastic last week of summer this year!
